SAP ERP Worryfree™ Solution

Due to the nature of some of the applications in use by enterprise business and government departments alike, it is prudent to investigate the possible application of our Worryfree™ VSAT network optimisation system. The applications in question are the ERP system and possibly some of the other highly interactive applications. Because these types of applications are sometimes highly sensitive to network latency, Meanswhat has developed a complete optimisation system, called ERP Worryfree™. The ERP Worryfree™ is able to make the user experience comparable to that of users working directly off the same LAN as where the servers are located. The solution combines a number of key features, including:

  • Protocol optimisation for TCP, CIFS, ICA and other protocols
  • Bandwidth reduction through compression, caching, packet filtering and advanced QOS
  • Application optimisation by separation of the user interface from the client application, with the use of Citrix XenApp

The ERP Worryfree™ solution is designed to operate seamlessly over the Sat3Play VSAT network.


Border Control

The “Border control” Worryfree™ VSAT Solution offers a wide range of different technologies which integrates into our VSAT Communications network, with the Worryfree™ modem as the back bone. The process is as follows, the equipment is located strategically (highest point, or mast), the radar tracks 360 Degrees, and an object is detected (size can be determined) the radar passes the location on to camera system, and it focuses on object, this can be done in remote location, as only objects that are threats can be acted upon on, meaning you can see that it a buffalo, an elephant or a lion, and ignore that object If however it is a human, or many humans, or trucks, or tanks, you have identified the threat before its even at the border point, and you could react with the required response (refugee without arms, person with rifle, or truck unloading military equipment), react appropriately timeously.

Our Worryfree™ VSAT solution would send Stream Video to any identified locations, control rooms, command centres etc as specified by the user

Thermal imaging cameras are widely used for Homeland Security. Thanks to their ability to detect human-sized targets several kilometres away, they are extremely suited for border surveillance and protection. Some FLIR Systems thermal imaging cameras can detect human-sized targets at a distance of practically 20 kilometres away (Without Radar).

Protecting a country’s borders is vital to its Homeland Security. It is, however, very challenging to detect potential intruders or smugglers in total darkness or in diverse weather conditions. Thermal imaging cameras can help border control professionals to meet the demands they face at night and in other low-light situations. Thermal imaging cameras can be integrated in a border security project with radars and other sensors in a so called “slew-to-cue” mode.

But not only land borders need to be protected. Thermal imaging cameras are the perfect tools for coastal surveillance as well. Small vessels can be detected at extremely long ranges.

Vehicles on the Move

The technology employed in this offer enables various ways to ensure that network traffic is secure.

Firstly, the Newtec VSAT system has built-in encryption, which encrypts all accelerated traffic on-the-fly by default. The encryption system employed in the Worryfree™ VSAT device, makes use of the Blowfish algorithm, which is considered very secure and at the same time relatively fast. To further enhance security, while at the same time simplifying system configuration, the encryption keys used are negotiated individually prior to each connection setup.

The secure and automatic key negotiation is based on the Diffie-Hellmann algorithm which provides a secure peer-to-peer key generation without requiring system operators to manually configure encryption keys.

It is recommended to use the standard security features as mentioned above for most applications. However, it may be considered beneficial to employ end-to-end encryption, controlled by the customer for certain offices or applications. Therefore, we offer the following 3 scenarios for implementing security in the network (also refer to the diagram below depicting the 3 scenarios):

Option 1 – Satellite VPN with Acceleration

The VSAT network is doing TCP Acceleration and encryption of all traffic. Further, if needed, all traffic on the back-haul link between HUB and HQ can be put into a separate VPN using separate VPN devices / routers.

This option ensures good security on the satellite-link, and at the same time makes sure that the traffic optimisation built into the VSAT system is doing its work.

Option 2 – End-to-end VPN, NO Acceleration

If the customer decides to have control of the VPN traffic end-to-end, using external VPN devices attached to the satellite network, this can be done. However, since the user traffic including TCP headers are encrypted, there is no way that the satellite system can apply TCP Acceleration to the traffic. This setup could severely impact the performance of the network. This setup should only be used for a small number of applications using a small amount of bandwidth, so as not to impact on most of the network’s performance.

Option 3 – End-to-end VPN and acceleration

In order to be able to do TCP Acceleration as well as have VPN end-to-end connectivity, the third option is to make use of external VPN/PEP devices, as depicted in the drawing. The PEP devices will be responsible for both VPN control and TCP Acceleration over the network. This option is available, but comes at the additional cost of extra equipment, complexity and management overhead.

A final decision on the types of security measures to be implemented should be taken after consultation with the customer.
